Pilot Guides:
ENGLAND
DVD
Justine Shapiro has the enviable job of hosting this colourful DVD and travelling the length and breadth of England while providing a fascinating visual history lesson.
The main program, appropriately titled A Short History of England, begins at Hastings, with a re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings when King Harold's Saxons and William the Conqueror's Normans clashed for control of the country.
After Justine collapses under the weight of her chain mail armour and the mock-Normans are victorious, the program takes us on to Brighton, then London.
Beyond London we take a Dracula tour in Whitby, tracing the count's movements as imagined by author Bram Stoker.
Justine then swings down to Liverpool for a Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour, before returning to the south, and some of the most alluring of England's historic attractions - Stonehenge, Glastonbury and finally, the incredibly atmospheric Tintagel.
In between there's time for a visit to an Elizabethan mansion, and a Druidic ceremony on the Glastonbury Tor.
This is a magnificent program, which comes with the bonus Guide to London on the same disc.
Pilot Guides: England is highly recommended for viewing enjoyment and for holiday planning.
