Chef Barry Vera travels to North Africa and the Middle East to sample regional cuisine and customs in this stunningly photographed DVD of the SBS television series Feast Bazaar: Morocco & Syria.
While the food is indeed mouth-watering, so that you can almost smell it as the smoke rises from the coals beneath the tagines, some of the ingredients may be a little stomach-churning for Australian viewers.
But there's everything to like about the landscapes through which Vera and his crew travel.
From Marrakesh, Essaouira, Fez and the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, to Palmyra, Damascus and Aleppo in Syria the camera lingers on the dense blue of clear skies and rich ochre tones of earth and traditional architecture.
DVD extras include recipes for Moroccan Bread, Muhammara Red Pepper, Walnut and Pomegranate Dip and others.
Throughout the series itself we also learn how to make frothy mint tea Moroccan style and other local specialties.
