World Class Trains
THE BLUE TRAIN
Claiming to be the 'world's most luxurious train', South Africa's famous Blue Train certainly seems to have the necessary credentials for such a description.
The Blue Train is in fact, two trains. The first runs from Pretoria to Cape Town, while the second takes the Garden Route, from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth.
In this superbly recorded documentary, viewers are taken on both trains, with stopovers along the way to visit the obvious 'tourist' points, but also some of the world's most spectacular scenery and historic locations.
Although time is spent in the cities along the way, Pretoria, Kimberley, Cape Town, George and Port Elizabeth to name five, there is plenty of time devoted to exploring the trains themselves, from the different interiors between the two, to the luxury and services provided for those lucky enough to be able to afford them.
Not strong on the technical aspects of the Blue Train, little is mentioned about the locomotives, but for those more interested in what those locos are pulling, this is thoroughly entertaining.
A professional narration, and animated maps, plus a few basic extras - chapter selections etc, add to the enjoyment.
The Blue Train is Volume 1 in an excellent series called 'World Class Trains'.
